Eli Smith

Elizabeth Smith is an activist, visual artist and performance designer. She received her bachelor’s degree in Physics from the State University of New York at SUNY Geneseo and her MFA from CalArts in both Performance Design and Art & Technology.

Eli’s work expresses the psychology of precarity through constructed landscapes of potential violence. She was recognized at the 2015 Prague Quadrennial for both her 2014 performance piece “For Your Inspection” and her 2014 stage design for California Repertory Theater’s “Next to Normal.” Her most recent productions include Lew Klahr’s 2017 film “Hearse,” and Edgar Arceneaux’s 2016 performance art piece “Until, Until Until…” which continues to tour. Eli is currently working with Nataki Garrett on the devised work “The Carolyn Bryant Project,” which will open at RedCat in May of 2018. Her 2018 installation “Within and Without” will appear at The Box gallery in June.
